Benefits of Steel Flooring For Hotel Design & Construction

image

Easy and Fast to Install

Steel has a high strength-to-weight ratio, reducing hotel construction timelines.

image

Engineering Support

TotalJoist’s hotel construction team works with you at every step, from pricing to design to installation.

image

Manufactured in Offsite Facility

Most of the steel fabrication takes place in a quality-controlled facility, reducing weather dependency and onsite construction storage.

image

Highly Durable and Resistant to Damage

Steel resists warping, cracking, moisture and insects, while offering a one-hour fire rating (UL, ULC Rated).

image

Excellent Acoustics

Composite TotalJoist uses concrete poured on dovetail-shaped steel decking to reduce noise and vibrations from hotel guests.

image

Better Use of Space

Our proprietary joists come with large pre-punched service holes for utilities to run through, reducing bulkheads and increasing space for hotel rooms and conference rooms.

Cold-Formed Steel Flooring Systems : TotalJoist

TotalJoist is an easy to install cold-formed steel floor joist that offers a robust, simplified framing solution compared to traditional wood or steel joists. The proprietary design allows TotalJoist to be installed similar to wood I-joists. With the superior strength and structural integrity of steel, TotalJoist is the most accommodating joist in the floor framing industry.

TotalJoist will save you time and money, and provide efficiencies in installation. Architects love TotalJoist’s ability to dramatically increase design options by allowing for unprecedented spans that create larger, open space rooms with higher strength.

Designed specifically to work with all wall structures including wood framing, steel framing, masonry and and ICF, TotalJoist can be quickly and easily assembled by any framing team or trade.

This steel floor joist is installed similarly to wood I-joists and has superior strength and easy installation. Take note of the large pre-punched service holes for mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

TotalJoist Benefits

image

Vibration control

Our vibration-controlled floor design means TotalJoist floors deliver industry leading comfort. Our proprietary software accounts for the effects of the supporting structure and has been calibrated based on real world testing of actual buildings.

image

High fire and acoustic ratings

Non-combustible with a One-Hour Fire Rating (UL, ULC Rated) and 50 STC Acoustic Rating with a single layer of gypsum.

image

Unmatched spans

Unmatched clear span vs. I-wood  allows for open design and bigger rooms. Up to 30% greater spans than engineered lumber.

image

Dimensionally stable

Manufactured to a tight tolerance in a quality controlled environment. Inherent nature of steel means no shrinking, twisting, warping, etc., or damage from termites or mold.

image

Eliminate bulkheads

Eliminate bulkheads to create more modern and spacious rooms that make units more marketable in today’s market.

image

More design options

Create higher ceilings, slimmer bulkheads and decreased floor depth using a lower-profile joist that is up to 30% shallower than i-wood.

Cold-Formed Steel Flooring System : Composite TotalJoist

Composite TotalJoist dramatically increases design and building options while also delivering a durable, high quality flooring system. Given the quick and easy installation of Composite TotalJoist, owners and developers can compress their construction schedule to start generating a return on their investment faster.

With stay-in-place formwork, Composite TotalJoist combines the benefits of our TotalJoist system with Total-Lewis-Deck and concrete, to create a premium concrete floor system that is stable and feels solid.

TotalJoist is our patented steel floor joist. Total-Lewis-Deck is a dovetail shaped deck with embossed ribs. It forms a very strong, permanent bond with the concrete poured onto it, and acts as reinforcement for the slab.

With stay-in-place formwork, Composite TotalJoist combines the benefits of our TotalJoist system with TotaDeck and concrete to create a premium concrete floor system with high acoustic and fire ratings.

Composite TotalJoist Benefits

image

Vibration control

Every flooring system is reviewed with our proprietary design method to ensure great feeling floors.

image

High acoustic ratings

Helps minimize the #1 reason for complaints of multi-family living – noise. 60% higher ratings than precast and over 34% higher ratings than wood and gypcrete with reduced sound flanking.

image

High fire ratings

Made with non-combustible materials. 2 hr UL/ULC rating with only one layer of drywall.

image

No shoring or temporary formwork required

Pre-cambered joists eliminate the need for shoring during concrete topping pour. Steel decking as stay-in-place formwork reduces the schedule by eliminating the need to place and tear down formwork.

image

Ease of installation

Pre-engineered components can be installed quickly and easily without the need for specialized trades.

image

Accommodates flooring systems

Allows for polished concrete and in-floor heating systems. Total-Lewis-Deck naturally drives heat upward for in-floor applications, increasing efficiency of your heating system.

COMFORT SUITES

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

The original floor system for this five-storey hotel required extensive shoring for multiple levels, hindering the other trades from completing their aspects of the project in a timely manner (framing, drywall, plumbing and electrical). Using Building Information Modelling, our team adjusted the wall heights and cross sections, then stamped the plans valid for Missouri which helped the building department.

HYATT PLACE HOTEL

LYNDHURST, OHIO

We coordinated with the engineering and design team by sharing our Revit model and they shared theirs. Through deep collaboration were able to plan all mechanical services and structural components to ensure installation on site went smoothly.

AC HOTEL BY MARRIOTT

DUBLIN, OHIO

The success of this project can be measured both by the customer’s satisfaction and by completing a seemingly impossible schedule four weeks ahead of time. This is due to the speed of design and installation of our Composite TotalJoist flooring system.

DOGHOUSE HOTEL

CANAL WINCHESTER, OHIO

In an effort to expedite construction to allow for on-time occupancy, our client was looking for an innovative building material that could be built quickly. They were concerned about saving time, but by choosing Composite TotalJoist and pre-fabricated wall panels the three-storey hotel structure was erected in just 18 days.

HOME2 SUITES BY HILTON

PEARL, MS

The original design for this five-storey hotel included all CMU. The decision was made to leave the first floor as CMU and switch to steel on the 2nd through 5th floors to increase speed and flexibility. The hotel was finished with 9.5” TotalJoists with 9/16” 22ga metal deck and gypcrete on top of the first-floor CMU wall system.

HOLIDAY INN EDMONTON SOUTH

EDMONTON, ALBERTA

We worked closely with the client to help them achieve their desired look with unique overhangs and parapet shapes to support their signature branding. During construction, our team provided detailed guidance and training for the new installer and after perfecting processes on the first floor, the remaining floors went up quickly.
