Kevin Ralph’s custom home perched on the Niagara Escarpment in Ontario uses two of TotalJoist’s cold-formed steel systems. The first floor uses 16” Composite TotalJoist, a TotalDeck
system and a 4” topping for in-floor heating. The result of this choice is a superior concrete flooring system that allows for a more efficient installation of in-floor heating while giving the home extra strength and durability. The flat roof uses TotalJoist system with plywood sheathing to allow for simple cantilevers and overhangs.
The first and second storeys joists have convenient pre-punched service holes, allowing the owner to run their HVAC components with fewer bulkheads.
Take special note of the floor extensions, which use a series of custom cantilever beams and joists. These extensions give three additional benefits: a unique architectural look, protection for the homeowner to walk outside from his basement, and additional square footage for the storeys above.
